2019 oil on canvas 48″ x 48″ (not for sale)
This portrait is a culmination of a long, arduous search for a meaningful way to juxtapose the myth of “the male gaze” for my Silent Language series. There is no cue of the time and place. The subject’s simple clothing only accentuates the masculinity. His focused gaze conveys a powerful yet, quiet message. It is private to the viewer yet the scale of the painting would confirm its volume. It is uncertain whom is being looked at. Only the feeling from that gaze remains.
